Back to School The Lesson No Teacher Can Teach

A new school year begins. Children return to classrooms, parents prepare new routines, and teachers begin the important work of guiding young minds.

But before our children learn mathematics, science, history, or technology, there is one lesson more important than all others:

To know God.

In this Orthodox Christian sermon, we reflect on what true education means and what children need most in a world filled with information, distractions, and uncertainty.

Knowledge can fill the mind, but only God can transform the heart.

Parents are reminded that the greatest lessons are often not taught with words, but through example—through prayer, forgiveness, kindness, and faith lived inside the home. Children learn not only from classrooms, but from the lives of those who raise them.

Students are encouraged to enter the new school year with courage, humility, honesty, and the light of Christ. Success is not measured only by grades, achievements, or future careers, but by becoming a person who loves God and loves others.

As Christ teaches us:

"Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." — Matthew 6:33
